The Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 is a landmark legislation that grants every citizen of India the right to request information from any public authority. It promotes transparency, accountability, and good governance in the functioning of government bodies.
Citizens can file RTI applications with Andhra Pradesh Police or any central government department through the RTI Online Portal managed by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India.
AP Police is a public authority under the RTI Act and is obligated to provide information within the prescribed time limits, subject to exemptions under the Act.
Register / Login — Visit rtionline.gov.in and create an account or log in with your existing credentials.
Select Public Authority — Choose the relevant ministry, department, or public authority (e.g., Andhra Pradesh Police).
Draft Your Application — Clearly state the information you are seeking. Be specific and concise.
Pay the Fee — A fee of ₹10 is applicable for Central Government RTIs (state fee may vary). Pay online.
Submit & Track — Submit the application and use your registration number to track the status online.
Public authorities must respond within 30 days of receiving the application.
Only ₹10 for filing — waived for Below Poverty Line (BPL) applicants.
Appeal to the FAA if response is unsatisfactory or not received in time.
Second appeal or complaint lies with the CIC for Central public authorities.
You will be redirected to the official RTI Online portal (rtionline.gov.in) managed by the Government of India. Registration on the portal is free.
